South Africa
South Africa is a beautiful country and tourist enjoys visiting here as it offers such value for money. With the current exchange rate at around 8 Rand to the Dollar, visitors get to stay in top resorts and hotels at a fraction of the cost. There are various regions and each one offers a unique experience to the visitor. From the beautiful Mountain resorts in the Drakensburg Mountains (the longest mountain range in South Africa) to the desert areas of Namaqualand. Surely you must have heard about the world renowned Namaqualand flowers that creates a spectacular wonderland of colour once a year – and all this in the dry desert region of the North Western Cape The Western Cape is an area unspoiled my man and relatively under developed (although this is changing fast now). The beaches are untouched, clean white sandy beaches that stretches for miles. This area always makes for beautiful photographs. There are many fishing factories found in this area as the Cold Benguella Current runs here in the Atlantic Ocean. If you like seafood – this is the place to be. The beautiful forest areas in Knysna and Tsitsikama offer the visitor so much to see. It’s my personal favorite, especially the Tsitsikama National Coastal Park. Here you have the beauty of the forest and the tranquility of the ocean on your chalets doorstep. Wake up to the rare bushbuck grazing next to your window or visit a waterfall that drops directly into the ocean. A small drive inland from Knysna will take you to Outshoorn. This is our ostrich Mecca. The spectacular Cango Caves are also found here. Who have not heard about Cape Town and all it has to offer. Beautiful beaches and some of the worlds most spectacular beach front properties are found here. I am not a beach person and therefore I enjoy my visits to the wine lands and all that is on offer there. Go wine tasting and enjoy lunch on one of the estates. It’s always a great experience and each estate is unique and has something different to offer. Let’s not forget Table Mountain our Famous landmark that is recognized worldwide. A trip to Robben Island where President Mandela was held prisoner for 27 years is a great expedition well worth taking. KwaZulu Natal is our subtropical region and we have an all year round warm climate that makes it popular as a holiday destination. There are some lovely beaches and as the Warm Agulhas current passes through here the ocean is very enjoyable to swim in. The Far Northern region of Natal is a swamp / wetland area and our famous St Lucia Estuary is found here. It’s a fisherman’s paradise and let’s not forget the warm ocean. Mpumalanga is our Lowveld area and well worth a visit. Some of the world’s most beautiful scenery is found here. The spectacular waterfalls, Gods Window, The three Rondawels, Bourkes Luck Potholes and Sudwala Caves are just an inkling of what you will find touring here. Perhaps you have heard of Pelgrimsrest, the quant little village in the mountains that was left untouched with original buildings and gold digging sites. This Town dates way back when Gold was first discovered. Let’s not forget the Kruger Nation Park. It is the largest game reserve in Africa (if not in the world) and many foreign visitors come to South Africa just to visit this park that is home to the Big Five as well as many other species of African animals. If you are wondering what the big five consist of: Elephant, Lion, Rhinoceros, Leopard and Buffalo. In the heart of the North West Province just outside a town called Rustenburg is the world renowned Sun City and the Palace of the Lost City. There is a casino, spectacular golf course, 5 star hotels and a time share resort. The Valley of Waves has an artificial ocean with waves that comes rolling in at intervals, the temple of courage has the highest, scariest slide ever known to man and then there are the most wonderful walking trails that transfers you to the another world. The Palace of the Lost City is just that – a palace, too spectacular for words. Pilansberg Game reserve is also found there and has the best game viewing drives ever. Crime is somewhat of a problem here in South Africa but if tourist stick to demarcated tourist areas and in their tour groups (if any) and just be aware of what goes on around them, then they are less likely to fall prey to crime. I love my country South Africa and I am passionate about her people. We have many different cultures here and 11 official languages. We are a rainbow nation and changes here have been for the better of all. The holiday destinations I mentioned above is just a touch on each area because I can write books full explaining the areas and what is to be found, but this is not the place to do so.

The above holiday places are from my own experience as we traveled our country annually for a deserved break. As I get time to scan some photographs of some of the destinations we have been at,I will come back to this site and place it here.
